For flora worshippers, the months of April and May are the best time of the year for the trek while for those who have an insatiable thirst for a view of the mountains; the best months are in autumn. The view from Sandakphu is unsurpassed by any view anywhere.
Where else can be seen 180 degrees of snow-capped mountains which includes Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Kumbhakarna, Kanchenjanga, Chomolhari in one single stretch of snows-an ethereal beauty. It is easy to understand why people leave hearth and home, traveling sometimes thousands of miles to walk through ripples of terraced fields of maize, rice, millet and barley, leaving the last traces of civilization far behind.
Day 01: Arrival in Manebhanjan and start Trek from Manebhanjan to Tumling (9,500ft)
Start trekking towards Tumling, one of the spectacular peaks in the Singalila Range. In Tumling, with your arrival at a trekker’s hut, unwind yourself and retire for the day.
Day 02: Trek from Tumling to Kalipokhri
Today morning, prepare to trek to Kalipokhri nny covering a distance of around 9km within 5 hours. While walking past the Singalila National Park, explore and discover the enchanting beauty of the vicinity and make it to a trekker’s hut in Kalipokhri for an overnight stay.
Day 03: Trek from Kalipokhri to Sandakphu (11,992ft)
Waking up in the morning, prepare for the most amazing experience of this trek as you will be trekking in Sandakphu, the highest point in West Bengal. Enjoy the panoramic views of the Mt Khanchendzonga and Everest, the scenic forests underneath and be a witness of the amazing sunset views in the evening; overnight stay will be in a trekker’s hut.
Day 04: Trek from Sandakphu to Srikhola
The day starts with a descending trek from Sandakphu to Srikhola. For the first half of the trek, climb downhill to Gurdum (around 5 hours). For the second half, a 2 hours’ descend will finally take you to Srikhola followed by an overnight stay.
Day 05: Return journey to New Jalpaiguri (130km/5 Hours)
Finally, you will be at the last leg of this astounding trek. Today morning, take a drive through the winding roads and get transferred to New Jalpaiguri, arriving where, this Sandakphu trek will come to an end.
